Best Time to Visit Egypt: A Month-by-Month Guide
When Should You Visit Egypt?
Egypt is a year-round destination, but different seasons offer very different experiences. Understanding Egypt's climate will help you choose the best time to visit for your style of travel.
October to April: Peak Season (Best Weather)
This is overwhelmingly the most popular time to visit Egypt, and for good reason. Temperatures are warm and pleasant – typically 20–30°C in Cairo, cooler in Luxor and Aswan.
- October–November: Excellent. Crowds are manageable, weather is ideal.
- December–January: Peak crowds, especially around Christmas and New Year. Book well in advance.
- February–April: Fewer tourists, still lovely weather. Highly recommended.
May to September: Summer (Hot but Affordable)
Egyptian summers are scorching, particularly in Luxor and Aswan where temperatures often exceed 42°C. However, summer offers major advantages: fewer crowds, significantly lower prices, and a more local experience.
The Khamsin Wind
Watch out for the Khamsin, a hot and dusty sandstorm wind that typically blows during March to May. These storms can reduce visibility dramatically and cover everything in dust for 1–2 days.
Our Recommendation
For most first-time visitors, October and November are the sweet spot – excellent weather, manageable crowds, and great value before the December peak. Spring (March–April) is also fantastic if you can avoid the occasional Khamsin.
