Planning Your Nile Cruise: Everything You Need to Know
The Nile Cruise Experience
A Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan is one of the world's great travel experiences – a floating hotel that carries you past ancient temples rising from the desert, through landscapes that have barely changed in millennia.
Luxor to Aswan or Aswan to Luxor?
Most cruises run both directions, typically 3–4 nights. The most popular is 4 nights Luxor to Aswan, which allows the most unhurried exploration of the temples along the way.
What's Included on a Nile Cruise
- All meals on board (buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner)
- Daily guided temple excursions
- Onboard entertainment (Nubian performances, folklore evenings)
- Sun deck with panoramic Nile views
- Air-conditioned cabins
Key Stops on the Luxor–Aswan Cruise
- Luxor: Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple
- Edfu: Temple of Horus – one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, with a horse-carriage ride from the dock
- Kom Ombo: The unique double temple of Sobek (crocodile god) and Haroeris (falcon god)
- Aswan: High Dam, Unfinished Obelisk, Philae Temple of Isis
Best Time to Cruise the Nile
October to April is the ideal window – comfortable temperatures, pleasant evenings on deck. Summer cruises (May–September) are possible but Upper Egypt becomes very hot (40°C+), which can affect the quality of temple visits.
